Today we are introducing the architetc Ekaterina Bass from Samara with her work about Venice in Italy and exhibition Biennali !
Venice biennali is an International Art Exhibition . It is held every two years with the participation of the international jury .
The Venice Biennale is one of the most famous world art exhibitions .
Ekaterina Bass.Samara . Russia
My name is Ekaterina Bass. Samara , I’m an architect . Currently I work in Romania , Bucharest , but I have to drive from Russia to Romania quite often.
I have been fascinated by photography for a long time, I visited Italy several times , I liked it there very much . Basically, I traveled there for the exhibition Biennali which takes place every two years in Venice.
These three photos were taken in Venice : 1. From the Rialto Bridge , 2 and 3 — Venetian streets
This was another trip to the Biennale exhibition . There we were staying in a suburb of Lido di Jesolo, visited Venice, a road to Venice takes a half and an hour by bus. But it’s not boring at all , as long as you can enjoy the beautiful meadows , fields and villages — the local landscape .
The exhibition begins in the end of September and seems to lasts until the end of October .
Despite the fact that I was there in October, the weather was very changeable ,it was quite cold in the morning and in the evening, so coat was a must-have. And when you come to the exhibition in the second half of the day , there is a bright sunshine and the temperature rises sharply , that you do not know what else to take off — a sweater or a coat , you start to frantically run around the local shops of Venice looking for T- shirts and glasses. Or even you dream to dive headlong into the canal . And sometimes it’s better to have umbrella . You never know how the weather changes …
When you come to the bus station , everything is quite simple. Bus Schedule is very accurate . Therefore it is better for those who live in the suburbs to think in advance what time to come and do not miss the last bus . By the way, in case of such situations, there is a train station just in front of the bus station .
Way to Biynale starts immediately through a range of various shopping arcades , it’s very addictive , masks , magnets, various decorations , Murano glass , multiple earrings in the form of masks , postcards, guidebooks, gondola rides …
One wants to try everything , go everywhere , to buy all that is available in these gift shops , make so many photos. When I was in Venice for the first time , I did not have enough memory in the camera and then I got my first canon. I was very upset, well, just wanted to capture all that I saw !
Further a lot of different attractions , as an architect, I always pass Architectural University, there are held always different exhibitions , you can see layouts of students, different literature .
The most interesting thing in this exhibition is that you need to go through the whole city , the exhibition is located on the outskirts of the island . It is hard to get lost , every house has pointers and to the exhibition as well, the name of the street . You can use a map as well . So now I have a map of Venice in my head.
You walk down the signs to the major sites like the Rialto Bridge , then to San Marco Square , and from there is very easy-follow the flow of people.
Along the way one stops almost near every building , streets , bridges , then only you think that evrything is the same . Many streets are very similar , and you can get confused if you do not look at the signs and trust your visual memory , it is possible to walk around the city for hours, and I had such an experience.
And of course- Italian cuisine . Along the way, there were a lot of different restaurants, but certainly the closer the San Marco was ,the higher were the prices for the food and boutiques.
So many temptations , I am personally really fascinated by shops with masks and outfits , I wanted to try and buy everything , everything is so beautiful …
I highly recommend boutiques with cheeses for fans . It is better certainly to see everything first and learn the prices . So many temptations for shoppers!
Rialto Bridge is a very beautiful place , and often the first long stop . From there, there is opened a scenic view of the canal , water taxis , gondolas , there are always a lot of tourists , crowds on the bridge , people take pictures , someone is sitting on the steps and eating , there are people selling copies of brand-name handbags, belts, wallets , sometimes it was hard to squeeze through the fence to make a photo. There is also a very interesting market located where you can buy not only souvenirs, spices, food , sometimes there may be some things cheaper . And be sure to try the ice cream in Venice !
There are a lot of different churches or cathedrals faced by musicians who sings , someone plays the violin , guitar …
By the approach to the Piazza San Marco there are a lot more people of course , and it all depends on the time of day , there are just crowds , queues in the Doge’s Palace , a very beautiful place , you should go there . Belfry offers a gorgeous view at the city , especially for lovers of photography.
And as for lovers of pigeons, when a flock of 20-30 pigeons are flying near your face -you want to escape from there as fast as possible. There are so many different musicians , often even the Indians play their ethnicity , you can watch artists painting landscapes and much more else.
This place is the second long stop to catch your breath and simply admire the beauty of the city!
In fact, if you do not stop , then walk to the exhibition for 40 minutes , if you walk fast …
The city is not very big, but very fascinating for its architecture !
Mostly, tourists often just buy snacks, look for less crowded streets and sit on the steps of the bridges , on the rocks , in the European manner . There is clean enough . It is hard to find such a quiet place . On one of these streets , I just found the restaurant, where they were exhibited flat cakes as masks , I have never come across such a place, but it seemed quite original .
The exhibition itself is also very interesting event , which involved a lot of countries.
It’s like a separate town . It is interesting how different projects are being exhibited there , this can be not only architectural projects , but simply the modern installations of different models of cars , furniture, yes anything … Each pavilion gives so many ideas, interesting pictures — it is interesting to shoot just exhibits. And environment itself is like a backdrop for a photographer , just use your imagination and ask someone from the friends to pose.
There are cafes and shops with well-known books and magazines on architecture, and just souvenirs. I think that this show could be interesting for any creative person , not only architects and designers !
